Live at Madrid’s – Portland, ME
Wednesday night, with support from Turner and Broadwing, Keep Flying made an appearance headlining Live at Madrid’s on their second stop in New England for their Ten Year Anniversary Tour. Each performance was unique. The band’s engagement with the crowd, made an atmosphere that felt inclusive and intimate.
Turner began the show, setting the vibe with sick sample tracks, a small tv playing in the background, and immediately wrapping the crowd around their finger. Their heavys were HEAVY, the breaks were fun, and every song had “call and response” vocals that changed the entire direction of a song instantly. Turner covered ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries. They pay a tribute, and do it so well without emulating the song, taking on an entirely new meaning.
Still riding high off the release of their album, ‘Duck and Cover’, Broadwing took the stage next. Utilizing their own light boxes in the front of the stage to illuminate the room, Broadwing’s front man Dave used them to engage more closely with the crowd. Broadwing hit Live at Madrid’s with a special performance, their drummer started firing off hard hitting fills that are not on the album. This brought an elevation to every song he did it on. The biggest highlight of their set, and what fans consider the best song on their album, was ‘bad’. Broadwing left fans smiling with their relative music
Keep Flying, a group that sounds like the best parts of 2010s Pop-Punk, mixed with elements of Ska, Post-Hardcore, adding both color and melody with a sax and trombone. They brought a vibe that felt like being in a room with friends on a Friday night. Pizza is about to be delivered, and there isn’t a care in the world. True. Authentic. Pop-Punk. Keep Flying exhibited a bond and friendship amongst band mates that was both inviting and moving for crowd goers, making them feel like they were a part of the group. Mid set they offered up a raffle prize for a skate board deck, anyone who purchased a record was entered for a chance to win. Rather than playing two songs that they always include on their set list, ‘Safety Harbor’ and ‘High Colesterol’, they decided to switch it up and let fans choose which one to play. You can watch the fans choice via the video attached.
Congratulations to Keep Flying for marking ten years of making music, being present in the scene, making memories, including staying at the bartenders apartment that they claimed was also their home (away from home)! You can find them at their next stop tonight at The Nook in Westfield, MA!
